We have had a busy week in first grade! We have been working on reviewing expectations and procedures. I have enjoyed getting to know all of my students this week! Here's a look at what we're working on:
- Reading-This week we read the book Stellaluna and talked about bats. We learned several new vocabulary words (escape, clambered, etc.) See if your child can use one of these words in a sentence!
- Writing-We are currently working on writing personal narrative stories. These are true stories about your life. Students should be writing a topic sentence, 3 events, and a conclusion. This week we focused on the format of our writing and practiced using a graphic organizer to help us plan our story.
- Math-This week we wrapped up Topic 2 and took our test. We also started Topic 3. Students are working on adding using a regular number line and an open number line (a number line without any numbers). Open number lines can be a tricky concept for first graders so please review their work when it comes home and help them correct any mistakes!
- Leader in Me-We focused on Habit 4: Think Win-Win this week. Students thought of words that they could use for thinking win-win and wrote them on a picture display in the first grade hallway! You can check out our display at Open House next week.
- Open House is MONDAY, OCTOBER 2 from 6:00-7:30! Stop by anytime and check out all of the wonderful leadership that is happening our school. You will have the chance to see your child's Leadership Notebook and look at some of the leadership displays around the building.
- Fundraiser packets are due Monday, October 2.
- Hat day is Tuesday, October 3. Please bring a food item for the Willard Food Pantry.
- McTeacher Night is Tuesday, October 3 from 4:00-8:00 pm at the McDonald's on the corner of West Bypass and Chestnut Expressway.
