Happy Spring! I am so glad to finally be getting some warmer weather! Here are some things we are learning in Room 30:
Reading-Last week, we read two books by Valeri Gorbachev. (The Big Trip and That's What Friends are For) Both stories are about the adventures of Pig and Goat. Students practiced comparing and contrasting both characters in the story. We also practiced retelling the beginning, middle, and end. This week, students are learning about dairy cows through the book Clarabelle. This ties in perfectly to our study of animals in science.
Writing-For 4th quarter writing, we are coming back to narratives! Students wrote narratives in 1st quarter as well. This time around, we will be focusing more on adding a lot of details to our writing! We will continue to focus on good punctuation and capitalization.
Math-We are wrapping up Topic 12, which focuses on measurement. Students reviewed with a partner today using an online test on the iPads. Our test will be Tuesday! We will begin Topic 13 this week, as well. We will be learning how to tell time to the hour and half hour! Feel free to get a head start at home!
Science-This quarter, we will be learning about animals and plants. We kicked off our unit by studying different habitats. Students learned that a habitat must have three things in order for the animal to survive there: food, water, shelter. We wrapped up our study of habitats by creating habitat posters with a group. Students had to illustrate their assigned habitat. They had to include animals that would live in that habitat and provide food, water, and shelter for the animal. Students were able to SYNERGIZE and our posters turned out great!!
