This week is Read Across America Week, which is a week of celebrating one of our favorite authors...Dr. Seuss! We read several of his stories and did some fun activities to go with them. We even got to try Green Eggs and Ham! Ask your first grader how it tasted! In other classroom happenings:
Math: We are wrapping up Topic 11 soon!! This topic has been focused on subtraction with two digit numbers. We have been working on several different strategies to subtract (drawing models, using an open number line, using a number chart, and using mental math). We will have our test next week. Be on the lookout for a review page to come home at the beginning of next week!
Writing: We are also wrapping up our opinion writing unit. We have been reviewing all of the important parts of opinion writing. We also looked at several different opinion writing pieces and scored them together using our first grade opinion writing checklist. Students will take their final writing prompt assessment next week!
Reading: This week we practiced asking and answering questions about a fiction text. Students were assessed over this skill today with a short passage and question set. Everyone did GREAT!!
