It has been another busy and productive week in first grade! Check out a few of the things we've been working on:
- Math-We wrapped up Topic 3 this week. A majority of students brought back their review/reteaching math homework! Thank you for putting first things first and supporting your child's learning at home!!
- Reading-This week we read the story Once Upon an Ordinary School Day. We practiced retelling the story and wrote about our own ordinary school day!
- Writing-We are wrapping up our unit on narrative writing. This week we looked at some sample narrative writing and talked about the good, bad, and ugly of each sample. Students will be taking their final narrative writing assessment next week.
- Social Studies-This week student's got to act like a pirate! We practiced our map skills by creating treasure maps. Students paired up and hid a "treasure" in the classroom. They had to mark their treasure on the map and write out steps to find the treasure using the four cardinal directions. Then we traded maps and they got to search for another group's treasure! Arrrrrrr, matey!
- Leader in Me-This week we focused on Habit 6: Synergize. As a class, we practiced synergy in a couple of different ways. We created a class puzzle and students had to work together to put it together. Students also broke up into small groups and created a "Leaning Tower of Feetza." They had to take off their shoes and build the tallest tower possible using only their shoes. It was fun and groups got to practice their teamwork skills! Check out the pictures below!
