It has been a while since I posted a weekly classroom update! Here's what's going on in Room 30:
- Reading-This week we read books that had a kindness theme (since this week was also Valentine's Day). We read the Invisible Boy and My Secret Bully. We had some great discussions about being kind to others while also practicing some vital reading skills, such as retelling the story.
- Writing-Students are working on writing their opinions. We have really been focusing on writing strong introductions and conclusions. Students should be starting their writing with a question, strong feeling, or interesting fact. They should have at least three reasons to support their opinion. They should wrap up their writing by restating their opinion and telling their reader what to do next.
- Math-We are working our way through Topic 10 and will take our test next week. We have been working on addition with two digit numbers. Students have been practicing making a group of 10 to add, drawing models of tens and ones to add, and using open number lines.
- Social Studies-This week we learned about Abraham Lincoln! Did you know he was 6 feet 4 inches tall?? Students got to stand next to a life size Abe Lincoln and compare their height to his!
We also had a a wonderful Friendship Party to celebrate Valentine's Day! Thanks to all who sent in treats and helped out with the organized chaos!! Enjoy some pictures below!
Reminders:
- School WILL be in session on Monday, February 19 as a snow make up day
