I hope everyone had a restful and joyful Christmas break! I thoroughly enjoyed my time off with my son and family! Here are some things we are working on in first grade:
Upcoming Events and Reminders:
- Reading-We have been reading books about snowmen and practicing retelling the story. Students have learned the Five Finger Retell method. Each finger reminds them to talk about a different part of the story. Each family should have received a handout with the details of this method. This would be a wonderful way to have your child practice retelling stories at home!
- Writing-This quarter we are working on opinion writing. This week we kicked off our opinion writing unit with writing about our favorite fruit. Students planned, wrote a draft, edited/revised, and shared their writing this week.
- Math-We are learning about place value in math (tens and ones). We will be having out Topic 8 math test next Wednesday!
- Science-This week we have been doing some STEM design challenges that are winter themed. Students have worked together to build a snowman, create a catapult, and build the fastest sled. They have had a great time stretching their design skills and working as a team!
